Day 1
Marina di Scarlino – Porto Azzurro
Weigh anchor early in the morning to sail to Porto Azzurro. The harbour during summer is very crowded. In this case you can have a safe anchorage in front of Porto Azzurro or in Golfo di Mola.
Day 2
Porto Azzurro – Le Formiche di Grosseto – Giglio Island (Giglio Porto)
Lift the sails to Giglio Island: a paradise to discover. The coast is rock and full of wonderful grottos and suggestive bays. Stop at Formiche di Grosseto to take a swim. These three isles, 15 miles far from Porto Santo Stefano, will surprise you thanks to their wild landscape.
Day 3
Giglio island – Giannutri
Point the bow towards Giannutri, a small treasure, most of all visited by divers, attracted by its uncontaminated sea bottoms, which are full of fishes, corals and wrecks of ancient vessels to explore. The coast is rock and full of wonderful grottos and suggestive bays, with two small gravel beaches in Cala dello Spalmatoio and in Cala Maestra.
Day 4
Giannutri – Porto Ercole (Cala Galera)
Sail to Porto Ercole and moor in Cala Galera. From the harbour you can walk along the promenade: it will surprise you with its cafés, restaurants, and terraces with sea view. A tour among alleys, staircases and little squares of the burg that raise on the seaboard, is unavoidable. Not to be missed: Forte Filippo, La Rocca and Forte Stella, the three perfectly preserved fortifications where you can admire wonderful panoramas.
Day 5
Porto Ercole (Cala Galera) – Porto Santo Stefano
Let’s discover Porto Santo Stefano! The marine village raises on a bay dominated by the Spanish fortress and by the coastal towers, which remind its troubled history. Don’t miss the view from the terraces of the fortress: it is amazing.
Day 6
Porto Santo Stefano – Talamone
After breakfast, you can sail a short line towards Talamone, which will charm you with its beautiful beaches, big pinewoods and its crystal blue sea. Inlets are very typical, and bays are perfect for every sail sports.
Day 7
Talamone – Golfo Stella
Sail towards Golfo Stella, perfectly protected from Mistral and perfect to have a save anchorage in the night. However, on the headland that divided Golfo Stella and Golfo della Lacona, almost rock, there are small and secluded bays, rarely visited and recessed through high and verdant cliffs, that will let you feel miles far from home.
Day 8
Golfo Stella – Golfo della Lacona – Marina di Campo
Route to Marina di Campo! You can have a safe anchorage because mooring could be difficult, as you have to pay attention with Southern winds blowing. Golfo della Lacona is perfect to have a break and take a swim: its bay, characterized by fine and gold sand, is wonderful. Off the coast, you will find rock sea bottoms, loved by those who like diving.
Day 9
Marina di Campo – Fetovaia – Marciana Marina
After looking at charts, leave Marina di Campo to reach Marciana Marina, a lovely town in the North-West coast of Elba. Not to be missed: the old city and the promenade that preserve the typical nineteenth-century traits of coastal Tuscan towns.
Day 10
Marciana Marina – Capraia
Capraia is waiting for you! Rock and volcanic, lonely and faraway, it is a must-see destination for sailors and sea lovers. Capraia is exposed to Libeccio, Sirocco and Mistral: the best place where to moor is the small harbour of the island. Alternatively, you can use the buoys to have a safe anchorage. Capraia is an oasis, perfect to do snorkelling, diving and retired swimming.
Day 11
Capraia – Portoferraio
Let’s not wait anymore and sail to Portoferraio: the small “capital city” that acquired an international importance with Napoleon’s exile. When you will reach Portoferraio, you can moor in the ancient mooring “Darsena Medicea”, or in the mooring of the yard “Esaom Cesa”. You can also have a safe anchorage. Not to be missed: the wonderful view from the lighthouse Forte Stella.
Day 12
Portoferraio – Rio Marina
Leave Portoferraio and head to Rio Marina, where you will find an island far from the touristic routes, bounded with its nature and its history as ancient refuge of fishermen.
Day 13
Rio Marina – Marina di Scarlino
Calmly, organize to re-tract all moorings to go back to Marina di Scarlino, where these two intense weeks of sea, wind and sail began. As a last place to visit, you can stop in Cala Violina, a beautiful bay where you can hear the sand sounds under your feet.
